ANNELISA –
Oh I am rather fussy about coats- fit, style, colour, wearability. I have the parka in navy and I’m pretty pleased with it. A layering piece which will see me through many seasons.
KIRSTY –
My waterproof parka has just arrived, and, oh, my goodness! Totally in love with it. Beautifully crafted, stylish and sleek. I’ve been looking for something that would cope with Scotland’s horizontal rain, but not make me look like I’m about to climb the Eiger, when I’m running to the shops. This is it.
EMMA –
I was worried that the proportions wouldn’t work for me, particularly the sleeve length, so I was delighted to find the adjustable buttons meant I could tighten the sleeves to work for my shorter length. I cant get over how soft the fabric is, and with the slight stretch to it, I’ve never come across a coat quite like it. I’ve coveted one of these parkas for a long time, but was put off by the price tag. I finally took the plunge after getting so fed up trying year after year to find a waterproof that was technical enough to wear on country hikes, but not look like I’d turned up to work dressed to go fell-walking! Im so pleased I went for it, its love at first sight, the olive colour is beautiful and will go with everything and I can see me happily wearing this for years.
SHARON ROBERTS –
I have three PS coats. A parka, a winter parka and a mac. They are the most versatile coats that I have ever purchased and rarely wear anything other than a PS coat. Totally waterproof and wind proof and an absolute joy to wear. Another bonus is that this company offers unbeatable customer service.
ESTHER ROBSON –
I’m absolutely thrilled with this coat, it’s beautifully made and looks so so stylish. Fabric is gorgeous. I haven’t worn it yet but don’t expect I’ll be disappointed. Customer service has been first class, I changed my mind about the colour after placing the order, I emailed the next day assuming it would be too late but my request was included and delivery was very quick. Thank you so much!!

I recently purchased the Northern Quarter Parka in black and I love it! The jacket oozes quality and is true to its description. I love the way the buttons are stitched in, the contrast grey lining is fab, the hood is just the right size for my head and doesn’t hang down over my eyes. I love the tapered sleeves, it’s so comfortable on and looks amazingly smart. I am a size 10-12 and bought the size 2 – the fit is perfect and I even get away with wearing a micro fleece underneath. I’ve had so many lovely comments since I started wearing it. I’ve tested it in the rain and on a cold and windy day in the scottish hills and it passed with flying colours! I haven’t seen anything quite like it anywhere else and it definitely fills a gap in the market when it comes to smart but practical clothing. I highly recommend!
Victoria Paterson-Mackie –
love my Northern Quarter! The cut of the jacket is perfect, especially as I am tall, the sleeves and body length is great. It is toally waterproof without compromsing on style. The tapered sleeves and having the toogles on the inside of the waist are practical and well thoughtout. I would defintely recommend this to any woman on the go.
Tina East –
I have been eyeing up the Parka for about a year and after finally buying it over the weekend it landed on my doorstep this morning!!!
Tanja –
Just got this in blue. Fits beautifully and feels reassuringly warm but not at all heavy. I have the mac too and have been wearing it every day. Absolutely everyone has commentrd on how beautiful the coats are. Also they really are easy to clean – such a relief!! The best coats I’ve ever bought.
Susan G –
This is my second Protected species parka – I justified getting one in a different colour based on how often I wear it! After reverting to an old jacket for a few days, I really noticed the difference in comfort and really missed the stretch in the lining of my PS parka – it just feels so much nicer to wear. Added to this, compared to other performance rainwear, in my opinion, it’s by far the most stylish – love it!
Susan Anderson –
I have just taken delivery of this beautiful parka!! I don’t know why it took me so long to order one….the fabric is beautiful and the quality excellent. It is a product that I have recommended to friends….who were equally delighted with it and are going to order also, after seeing mine.
Susan –
I’m delighted with my parka – It looks lovely and it is great in the heavy rain showers that have been so frequent lately. It’s so comfy and I get compliments on it every time I wear it.
Samantha –
I could not choose between the winter parka and this. I would have loved to own both but as a part time worker, I do not wish to spend more than I need to. I wrote to you and was advised that if I layer up with a light puffer jacket the parka can be for all seasons. What helpful advice! This is so true. I have worn this in heavy rain and also in windy weather. The layering really works well. Depending on the temperature, I layer with a light puffer jacket or a fleece jacket. I feel warm and comfortable at 5 degrees. And I know the parka will keep me warm in colder temperatures too. The hood is designed so well that it has kept my woolly hat dry in the rain whilst still give me good peripheral vision. I am size 8 and did worry that I need to buy a size up but no. The fit is perfect. I love my parka. After I purchased this parka I donated my winter puffer jackets to charity as I am so confident that this is what I need all seasons. The material, design and quality of this parka is exceptional. I love this parka. I spend a lot of time outdoors even in the colder months. I no longer worry about the weather when I don’t have my umbrella. There is only one complaint and that is from my husband. He would also love to own one. ?
Rosie Davis –
Absolutely beautiful & practical too. I bought the pebble grey parka on a recommendation from a friend I am so glad I did it takes rainwear to a new level stylish and completely waterproof. Will probably now buy the jacket and will recommend your products without hesitation. Thank you.
Rosie –
Perfect for a Scottish summer. Rarely had it off since I got it.
RK –
My search for the perfect raincoat is over, I have lost count of how many coats I’ve owned over the years to cover and protect me from the great British weather, I have never been happy with any. Most have been either an ‘anorak’, so totally lacking any style or a ‘fashion mac’ where you end up cold and wet!
Pauline –
I’ve had my cityscape parka for around six months now and love it so much that I wear it almost every day. The fabric is beautifully luxurious: soft, stretchy and feminine, yet hardwearing. It is incredibly comfy and stylish, yet hardworking; it really is waterproof & windproof, so it’s great for the school run and running around with the kids as it leaves my hands free (no need for a brolly any more!). It looks great with jeans and for work; the blue is really versatile. It has seen me through the winter with an extra layer underneath, but will equally be great as the weather warms up through spring. I love all the design details which set it apart from other waterproof jackets, so much so that I’m considering investing in the mac as well!
Pam Connolly –
It’s lovely. I bought mine in black for a trip to Rome in February and it will be great. The lines are sleek and it’s very smart and versatile. I’m going to road test it later today! One small point – I’d love an inner zipped security pocket, for cards etc.
Pam Connolly –
I bought the parka for a 5 day trip to Rome in late February this year. It poured and was breezy for 3 days. On the fourth day it snowed and on day 5 it was freezing. The Parka stepped up to the plate and withstood everything that the firmament chucked at it. I stayed warm and dry with just a jumper and jeans underneath. A brilliant, versatile and smart jacket.
Pam –
I don’t often leave reviews but this parka deserves one – exceptional quality and have received lots of compliments. Have the storm grey and it looks grey, purple or khaki depending on the light. Love wearing it!
Neeta –
I LOVE my black parka. It’s light weight, stylish and super cosy. It’s been my main winter jacket this season. I find it to be warm without having to layer up. There’s enough room to accommodate a light jumper/cardi and big scarf without looking bulky. The design for the parka is really well thought out, I especially love the funnel neck. The hood is the right size to not have to bother with an umbrella which means I’m free to push the pram/carry the shopping or chase after my toddler!
Maureen Gillanders –
Don’t know what more to say that hasn’t been said already,I absolutely love my parka so stylish for a rain coat.Very speedy service.
Meg –
I wear my black parka every single day – school run , work , walking , shopping. Amazing product – warm, stylish and 100% waterproof. I can roll it up and stuff it in a bag and it still looks fab when I need it. 100% amazing ?
MR –
The Northern Quarter Parka is that rare product that lives up to all its praises. I bought online, from across the Atlantic, having to trust the rave reviews, a Guardian write-up and the detailed Protected Species responses to my e-mail queries. (Customer service is meticulous.) The price made me consider for a good while, but details such as the snug wrists with their shaped extended cuffs, the versatile neckline, the car-coat length, and substantial zipper are evidence of truly thoughtful design. It is well finished and works with skirts or trousers. Upon receipt, I wore it for a week long business trip in London, with frequent compliments. The parka held up in wind, pouring rain and was light enough for fluctuating temperatures. It is a joy to wear. Enthusiastically recommended!
Mandy Doyle –
I have been looking for the perfect parka for years. My remit was lightweight & waterproof but with contemporary cut – something which is difficult to find as most waterproofs can only be purchased in hiking/outdoors shops. I could wax lyrical all day about my parka. I love it so much that I’ve just ordered another one in black!!
lynseyrodger –
A lovely coat which makes me probably the only person glad for heavy rain in June! The fabric is smooth and breathable and the fit is comfortable. I am well padded and the coat is more snug on my bottom than on the model, but the internal drawstring gives it shape and avoids the dreaded stuffed sausage look. The team were really helpful with fit advice too. Overall a lovely coat which doesn’t feel like a compromise as practical layers often do.
Lucy –
I bought the Waterproof Parka in January and absolutely loved the design and the protection it gives on the interminable rainy days we’ve had this Winter/Spring. Light stylish and surprisingly warm. So I was devastated when I noticed that the stitching was coming undone! I emailed Protected Species and within 36 hours had a replacement jacket – certainly before they would have received the return. Unbelievably good Customer Service. Lots of companies will tell you that quality of product and service are the cornerstones of their brand but very few actually deliver on promise so quickly and with so much trust. Well done and thank you.
Lorraine Wade –
Absolutely love my new Parka,, it’s light, stylish and comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble for their amazing customer service team. It arrived quickly and beautifully boxed. Thank you Protected Species Lorraine Wade.
Liz Marxhall –
Absolutely love my parka! Stylish and does what it’s says, keeps all water out. I’ve received so many compliments when wearing it.
Linzi Harrow –
I’m a Parka girl and totally love it. Fabulous jacket for the wind and rain (I live in the West of Scotland!). Can wear it walking my dog in the park with my wellies or in the city with my skinny jeans and long dressy boots. Have had lots of compliments and my sister and Mum have both bought one too. Great delivery service and even came with waterproofing washing detergent. Thanks Protected Species…at last a chic looking waterproof!
Kirsty Steen –
I love my Parka, it us my go to coat. Always smart, beautiful fabric and will take you anywhere in style and always perfectly dry. I wear dog walking, to town and out in the evening for casual effortless style and comfort.
Katy –
I needed something a bit smarter than my dog walking coat for rainy days in the city and this is perfect. You can see the thought that has gone into this design. The ‘quiet’ fabric’ is genius; noisy waterproof fabrics irritate me. Love it.
Kate –
I bought my parka at the end of summer and it’s had good use through Autumn and winter. I’m 5’2″ and a size 8/10. Size 1 is a good fit (sure the arms are a tiny bit long but it looks fine and gives a bit more hand protection from rain!), the parka seems really flexible and suits lots of people. Additionally the service was quick and easy.
Karen Ronney –
Bought this parka after it was recommended by a friend. I am really pleased with the design and look and how comfortable it is to wear. It is hard to find a raincoat that is both fashionable and practical. The price reflects the attention in detail that went into the design. I priced other raincoats of this standard in the market and the princing is spot on. This will be a coat I will wear for years to come.
Julie W –
Had my parka for a couple of years – I live in it! Thank goodness for the Nicwax rejuvenating treatments working a treat. Received many complements, no-one believes that it is a high performance garment because it’s just too stylish. Loving the expanded colour palette, just need to decide on which style next. Keep up the good work Protected Species.
Julie3 –
This coat is truly stunning. Eco-conscious which I love and totally waterproof. The finish is faultless and I can’t tell you how much I love it. The pictures do not do it justice. I love slightly fitted styles and so nearly didn’t order this because it looks very straight up and down. However, the drawstring waist allows a little adjustment so it suits me perfectly. Now the real nitty gritty! I choose the navy because all the other colours are too warm in tone. The colours that suit me the most are bright and clear and the navy is the only one that really works. A bright cobalt blue would be heaven. I normally wear an 8/10 in coats, depending on the brand so ordered a size 2. When I enquired about the length I found out that the size 3 is 2cm longer so I ordered that one as well to compare. The 3 is a little big but the drawstring waist has solved that problem so that’s the one I’m keeping because of the extra length in the body and arms. I do a lot of walking and like to wear a knee-length coat to keep my legs dry with my boots so in an ideal world Protected Species would make a cobalt blue knee length, adjustable waist, coat. Fingers crossed for some point in the future! Oh, I haven’t mentioned the foldaway hood which gives more body to the collar and what a fabulous hood it is. I’ve never had a hood that fitted so well. And finally, their ethics are superb. Oeko-Tex certified and a wonderful family owned factory. Yes, it’s a considered purchase but worth every single penny. Thank you, Rebecca and your wonderful team.
Julie Pickering –
This is quite simply one of the best jackets I have ever bought – and I’ve bought lots!! There is nothing not to like, design, fit, manufacture, fabric, length, quality – all absolutely 5 star. I just love it. I will be ordering in another colour and am looking at other styles. (Want to leave 5 star rating but website wont let me add it )
Julie McLean –
Was already a Mac owner and loved it so before a Scottish summer holiday I added a parka to my collection. It is great for day to day use, cycling and walking around the sights of the Highlands. It keeps me totally dry and warm no matter how much rain and wind are thrown at it. I am still using the Mac and Parka in the winter months too.
Julie C –
My husband bought me my Northern Quarter Parka, I have lived a long time in gortex but the rubbing and rustling was really getting to me. I wanted something that was more of a proper coat but could brave the elements. Enter the Parka, I love the softness of the fabric, it’s fluidity and style. I love burying my chin in the stand up neck to keep the wind off and taping up the sleeve to avoid the rain dribbles from my brolly. 5 stars!!!
Julie –
I um-ed and ah-ed for ages about buying one of these, even requesting swatches and then deciding not to go ahead. It seemed so expensive and I really really wanted a coat in a lovely bright colour so I could feel more cheerful in the rain. In the end, I bought one in sensible black and it’s been brilliant. It feels lovely and comfy on with a luxurious silky feel. It looks great, the hood fits snugly so only a small part of my face gets wet. It has big deep pockets for all my keys, lipbalm, dog poop bags, hand gel and phone. Now I look back on the times I got wet when I didn’t need to. If only I’d bought this coat when I first thought of it! I can’t recommend it highly enough. Every time I come in and hang it up, I think I must give them a review and today I remembered to do it at last!
Judy –
I’ve worn my Northern Quarter for over a week now, both casually and with business wear, and it works every time. Lots of adjustable features let you tailor the look and the fit to suit you and the weather. The coat is made with a huge amount of attention to detail, and the result is lovely.
JoJoH –
I had been looking for a lightweight but stylish coat for quite some time – and have lots of coats in my wardrobe which aren’t quite right as a result!! A friend introduced me to Protected Species and although for me it was a considered purchase, the 28 day money back guarantee was a safety net and I ordered the cobblestone parka. It is exactly what I was looking for. It’s stylish, waterproof, beautifully designed and the finishing touches are perfect. It isn’t too heavy which means it can be used year round as in the colder months you would be able to layer with a jumper underneath. I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this coat and the excellent customer service I experienced. Very pleased!
Joanna Robinson –
The Protected Species parka is a truly wonderful thing. It’s light, soft, sleek and totally practical. Looks as good in the city over trousers as it does hill walking with boots and jeans. I bought the grey which is a lovely gentle, ‘expensive’ looking colour I would say. I’m taller than average so for others like me you might like to know this is a very good bet for length both in the sleeves and the body. Excellent purchase, thank you. May well be back for the black!
Jennifer Inglis –
As a new mum , I wanted something practical and stylish , I feel like a yummy mummy in my Parker . I have had a lot of compliments when I wear it . It is light , comfy and keeps me dry when out for walks with the pram . I got a lot of help getting the right size and style to fit .
Jill –
I bought a Protected Species parka five years ago. The parka has been such a brilliant purchase! I wear it all the time. It has withstood so much wear it’s incredible and it continues to look fabulous, so much so that I regularly get compliments on it, even now when its old (but it really doesn’t look it). I can’t praise this parka enough – what a great purchase – I am such a satisfied customer that I’ve now decided to buy another one in a different colour or I might go for a different Protected Species style. Thanks so much Protected Species!
Jayne C –
Lovely parka – comfortable and dry and fabulous for protecting you from the elements and I have had so many compliments on the style!
Jacky –
It is a pleasure to write a review for my lovely grey parka. I bought it in the pop up shop in Glasgow 2 years ago this coming Easter. Quite honestly, it is the most fabulous outdoor wear I have ever purchased. The second time I wore it I fell over some sleeping policemen in a pitch black car park. I went down with such a wham, completely spread eagled. I really hurt. Thought “that’s it my new coat ruined”. Got home, my right elbow was bleeding and battered, but – not a mark on the outside sleeve. It was, and still is, completely unmarked, intact. I truly expected a huge hole in the sleeve. It keeps me warm and dry and It’s fashionable. I’ve had masses of compliments and I think you might have guessed, I love it.
Gillian Bickerstaff –
Best jacket I have ever bought – very high quality, flattering and versatile. I wore it continually throughout the autumn, winter and right up to May. Walking the dog, wearing to the office or standing in torrential rain for 1.5 hours watching my sons play rugby it kept me bone dry!!! Love love love it.
Forstamy –
I absolutely love my Parka and it has received so many compliments. I love the lightness and ability to wear smart to work or with jeans, wellies or trainers. I love the sleeve length and the cut of the cuff which is longer over the front of the hand but cut over the wrist at the back, the zip is seamless and flat to the body and the body length perfect. I love my coat – to the point when I’m not happy if rain isn’t on the forecast. A fantastic investment to my wardrobe.
Flavie Tedder –
This coat is so versatile, I love it! Practical and water-proof for when dog walking or doing the nursery run. Stylish and water-proof when going to the office. Lightweight, small and water-proof when travelling with hand-luggage only. I haven’t found an occasion yet for which this coat was not perfect. The colours of the new range are beautiful…I’m already considering my next purchase!
Fiona Young –
It’s hard to say anything that hasn’t already been said, but I would echo every positive comment. This is the kind of waterproof coat that ticks every box. The fabric is like nothing I have ever seen. Perfectly waterproof (not just shower resistant) with a slight stretch to it. The parka is beautifully cut and finished; very classy, with subtle attention to detail. It screams quality and while admittedly not cheap, it is something that will be in your wardrobe for ever. Ideal for walking the dog, or taking to a festival, but equally smart enough to wear to work. Protected Species are a joy to deal with – and I can only hope they grow, as I would be quite happy for them to design my entire wardrobe!
Finnty7 –
I ordered a Parka in the sandstone colour, I love it! I’m 5’3 so it’s a bit longer on me and the sleeves slightly long but not overly so. Beautiful fabric and very lightweight. Haven’t worn it yet as we are having incredible weather, highly unusual for us!
Elf –
I can’t live without the black parka I bought a while ago! Light and fitted, it keeps me dry and stylish under the permanent rainy Scottish weather and, well over a year on it still looks as new as it was when it arrived – lovely packed, in the post. Efficient customer services too when I needed my questions answered at the time I placed my order.
Elaine Wilson –
I bought a mac in grey a couple of years ago and became the proud owner of a parka in black just before Christmas. Both have been a godsend in this dismal Scottish weather. The parka is great on colder days as I can fit several layers under it without feeling uncomfortably bundled up. The mac works better when it’s a bit warmer. Both are easy to cycle in, keep me dry, and still look smart enough once the bike’s locked up for the day.
Di Trease –
I loved the Commuter style but returned it because the sleeves were too tight for my liking. I exchanged for the Parker jacket, which I also love – sleek, stylish, comfortable, stretchy, waterproof – altogether fabulous! Thanks for the very speedy responses to my queries and exchange.
Dawn –
Had mine for about a year. I walk everywhere. So its fair to say living in Scotland I get soaked often. Everyone loves my parka. I do too. My only regret is that I bought a colour that completely drains me and does nothing for me. I wish I’d chosen differently. I admittedly tried a few, I found it difficult to decide, but P.S were very good at my new order and returns. It was an expensive mistake getting the wrong colour for me. I love my parka, but the colour makes me feel miserable! I wish there was ‘an exchange’ where we could swap! Lovely made garment that part of me is glad it will last for years, but sad due to the colour! The coat can get quite ‘static’ filled. I’ve not found a solution. I’m really pleased I got the 2 way zip, as some didn’t have this feature. Due to the parka length and my fast walking, it would be very difficult to stride easily without being able to open from the bottom. I would definitely need this feature if I ever purchased again. On that point PLEASE could you make a shocking PINK parka, or baby blue, or baby pink!
Daniella –
I put my black parka to the test during a rainy Manhattan day. It held up during a one hour walk around the famed Jackie O Reservoir.
CSW –
Trying very hard to add anything new to the already glowing reviews that the waterproof parka so truly deserves. I can only gush about how much I love it. It’s sleek, stylish, comfy, waterproof and just perfect – no bad points whatsoever. If the price puts you off, don’t let it – it really is worth it. This is timeless and will be worn again and again and again – It really is the ultimate parka . Customer service is spot on too. Could not be more helpful or passionate about their product and making sure you are happy. Seriously, Protected Species have got it spot on in every way – what a gem of a find.
Claire Wylie –
I’ve been looking for a jacket to do the school run for a while and am glad I invested in this parka. It’s a decent length so stops my jeans from getting soaked and I do like a funnel neck. The fabric is great- lightweight but surprisingly cosy and the tailoring is v flattering too.
Claire Wilkinson –
I can’t review the jackets as don’t own one yet, but will shortly and loved the one I tried on…..however on a different note…and having worked with these guys found them to be professionals, enthusiastic, hardworking and fun. They live and breathe their brand and that should be admired and encouraged. Keep up the good work! Claire.
Claire Wilkinson –
I never have my parka off and literally don’t know where I would be without it. It’s good for work, for walking, and just generally everything I do in my day to day crazy manic life. Actually just today got caught in a downpour and wondered where I would be without it. Contemplating another in a different colour! Thank you! Claire, Balloch.

Charlotte Matthews –
hood. Unfortunately, the high collar drives me mad to the point where I have stopped wearing it after just a few days. It rubs against my face as I walk and is constantly in my way – particularly unpleasant when the fabric is cold and wet. I can’t get it out of the way by wearing it unzipped as then the zip grazes my chin. I decided to keep it as I liked everything else about it and hoped I would get used to it, but unfortunately it has gotten more not less annoying – an expensive mistake. Looking at reviews I seem to be alone in being bothered by this though so it must just be me!
Cathy –
I’ve had the parka for a couple of months now and it is the most fantastic raincoat I have ever owned, and I only wish I had heard of this brand sooner. The cut and style of the parka are fabulous and the fabric is so soft. In fact I think it looks better on, than in the photos. There are lots of details, such as the way the sleeves are elongated at the wrists that have really been thought through and work so well in the rain. The quality is superb, as is the customer service, I was unsure which size to buy and they were so helpful and friendly, and spot on about my size. Fantastic company , highly recommend.
Cathy –
My parka has just arrived in time for a spot of rain. Performed wonderfully. The stretch fabric is really weatherproof but also light, crease resistant and very warm, although it is thin. This makes it super comfortable as there is no bulk and it’s very flexible and not restricting. Very stylish with subtle features. Love it.
Cathi Goldinger –
Beautiful, shape, colour(blue) and comfort. The nicest outdoor jacket I have ever had. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for something with a bit of style for cold wet windy days.
Caroline –
I bought the northern quarter parka as I love the neckline on it over the mac and I have to say it really lives up to the promises made on the website! I feel really chic when I wear it – it looks great when I doing the school run with my skinny jeans and boots on but when I wear over my suit when I have an important meeting, it also looks great! The material feels absolutely amazing and living in Scotland I managed to test in the rain on the first day and I stayed totally dry!
Carol Baxter –
I was so excited to discover this wonderful clothing. My new Parka is fabulous–so stylish and just different from the norm. The fabric feels superbly soft and silky and I shall love wearing it. Thank you so much Rebecca for your advice and prompt delivery.
Cara –
I love my Protected Species parka on so many fronts! I’ve struggled with the whole how do you look stylish, commute and not get soaked (esp this winter) and now all my problems are solved! The coat is true to it’s word – it’s light, “swooshy” and super comfortable to wear. I got the size 1 (6-8) (I normally take a size ten in a top, my North face is a small)and it’s super – even more adjustable then I imagined. You can pull on the inside toggles to nip in the waist (very nifty) and I could comfortably get a light jumper underneaths. The detailing and finish is sublime – I am very in love with the peaked sleeves, everything is just right. All in all I am very happy with purchase. Recommended.
Beckie Greene –
I bought the Northern Quarter Parka in Cobblestone and I love it’s versatility. Perfect for doing the school run in the West Coast drizzle with a pair of jeans and trainers but equally as stylish dressed up for work. It keeps me dry, is windproof but most importantly looks great, fits really well and is so comfortable to wear. Thank you Protected Species for creating the coat I’ve been trying to find for years!
Annie –
Quite simply, where have you been all my life green parka! I first purchased the mac (trench style) in brick red, but the colour wasn’t quite right. So I ordered the parka instead, great choice. First day I have worn it was 4 degrees outside and pouring with rain. I was dry, warm and looked good for the nursery run and then onto work. The most versatile coat I have bought, just dying to buy another style now! Great customer service too, and really easy to communicate with questions. Worthwhile getting the fabric swatches first to help guide you with colour choice.
Amanda Robertson –
The Parka is an essential item to your wardrobe. Waterproof, classic, timeless, cosy. The stowable hood replaces the need to have an umbrella on those rainy days out with a toddler in tow. A good length so you’re cosy and dry after a day of puddle splashing or shopping.
Amanda –
I bought the true black parka which arrived today. It was packaged well and the look, feel and movement of the parka is amazing. The pictures really do not do the fabric and the attention to detail justice. Key features for me: fabric – it’s sleek and stretchy hood – it’s such a good fit in that it covers your head well and has enough fabric to shield your face in the wind and rain collar – this looks great with the hood in or out internal drawcord – creates a lovely shape so it’s not just straight up and down.
Ally – –
I prefer to wear a waterproof jacket rather than carry an umbrella and, in the past, have had to sacrifice style for practicality. However, protected species jackets combine comfort, all weather protection and style. I’m a size 16-18 and these jackets are very flattering on the fuller figure. I’ve got a city walker and a parka and love them both. I love these jackets so much I’ve just ordered a city walker for my mother and also one for my sister-in-law as Christmas presents.
Alison Kerr –
Its simple….I love this parka
Ali –
I love my parka so much. I went for the black so that it would go with everything and look smart if necessary. The attention to detail is second to none. From the buttons, well fitting hood and the inner drawstring to pull in the waist. The fit is excellent. I’m s size 8-10 and got size 10-12. There is plenty of room for a thick jumper if necessary. The water literally sits on the surface. I’ve also worn it in cold, strong winds and it kept the wind out and me warm despite it being light weight. Yes, it is an investment but as a dog owner and a football Mum I know it will he worth every penny.
Ali Penter –
There’s something very special about Protected Species. The coats are truly unique, and the pictures simply do not capture the ‘experience’ of wearing one. The fabric is the most amazing luxurious, stretchy material you’ve ‘never’ seen before. The attention to detail in the styling; the toggles, the way the buttons are sewn on, the heat sealed seams, the subtle logo etc, scream quality. The colours offered, quite frankly, gave me the worst headache. They all have a subtle sheen that makes them change in the light, and are so truly beautiful that I wanted every one. They have the uncanny ability to go with everything in your wardrobe. I bought the mac in sandstone, so finally decided on the storm colour for the parka. It’s a dark grey with a purple / red undertone, which looks almost purple in some lights; and it literally seems to adjust colour to compliment the colour of the clothes you’re wearing. I’m just under six foot tall, with long arms, and found the parka hit mid thigh, which is perfect for what I wanted. The sleeves are a great length, and are angled so they’re longer at the front. This meant that this is the first non-Tall range coat that actually fits me. It also looks fabulous on much shorter women; you’ll just have that bit more length, and can adjust the sleeve width with the buttons on the cuffs. There are also toggles to adjust the waist, the hem, and the fabulous hood (which actually covers all of your head!) I know I won’t be able to stop at two coats. I am selling the various other coats in my wardrobe as I know they will now just languish there unworn. I must also just mention the amazing customer service. The ladies are so helpful, and it really is a personalised service. It’s safe to say I would highly recommend this brand to anyone.

I’d dithered over buying this parka for a few months as I wasn’t sure it would live up to the hype & it was expensive. I’m totally converted & honestly think this is the best money I’ve ever spent on an item of clothing. It looks so stylish compared to other waterproof coats & my teenagers don’t think it’s tragic! It’s totally waterproof for daily dog walks, even keeping my hair totally dry as the hood pulls down brilliantly & can be tightened. The attention to detail is great, I agree with previous reviewers with comments about the zip, sleeve length, styling etc. About the fit: I’m a 12-14 but I do have big boobs. The 12-14 fits well & I could wear a sweatshirt underneath. Also be aware, this isn’t a coat for arctic winter conditions but is perfect for the relentless rain & wind. I think I’ll get years out of this coat & cost per wear will be minuscule.

This parka is great and I use it everyday, from going to work to walking the dog. I bought it as I wanted a coat that was completely waterproof but yet breathable and a thin material that wasn’t noisy like other raincoats and it certainly delivers on that! My only 2 comments (and reason for not giving 5 stars) would be on design features – it could do with a concealed inside pocket for your phone and keys etc and they are quite heavy when in the main pockets. Also a clasp at the waist or a 2 way zip for those days when it’s not cold enough to need the coat fully done up but you want it held together and out of the wind. But technically and performance wise it’s definitely worth the money – am considering purchasing a short one too for running and riding etc! Also free next day delivery helps too.

An absolute gem of a Parka. It’s simply the best waterproof Parka on the market. Lightweight, comfortable and stylish. I highly recommend this to anyone living in a slightly rainy country, it works like a charm in London and is versatile for work, social or hiking occasions. I absolutely love it!

Absolutely loving my new waterproof parka, I have purchased numerous coats over the years, i’m known for it, but i have searched for one where i can feel confident i’m not going to get wet and the rain just rolls off, this parka does exactly that. It’s so lightweight that i don’t even know i’m wearing it, it’s perfect for the school runs, dog walking, shopping, in fact i can’t think of any event i couldn’t wear it to and it’s very classy looking. I’ve had lots of compliments in the school playground which is always lovely to hear. Fabulous coat and i’d highly recommend it to anyone. Thank you so much Protected Species ❤️

I LOVED my parka — and apparently so did the thieving Scottish wotsit who stole it from my hotel room. I’ve yet to find a waterproof that beats it.

At first I loved the jacket – it is a great fit and style. However, having worn it earlier this year in the Yorkshire dales rain, I was bitterly disappointed to end up with wet shoulders. The jacket is over 2 years old but hasn’t been worn much or washed at all in that time. Definitely not fully waterproof in my opinion and would be returning if I could.
